ENTERCOM VP Programming/AC Format Captain and former WAPE/JACKSONVILLE PD CAT THOMAS tells ALL ACCESS, "I got some very sad news.TRANE ON THE RADIO (CHRIS TRANE, real name KARL WHITAKER) has died of a heart attack in GEORGIA. TRANE's radio and TV career included stops all over the south and PHILADELPHIA. He was most known for his nearly 20 year run in afternoon drive at WAPE-FM."

"TRANE was among the best drive time talents I’ve ever heard. But his biggest asset was his heart. He cared about people and loved radio. THE BIG APE nation is shocked and saddened by the loss of our great friend. We love you TRANE E. BOO."

Added former WXMK/WRJY-BRUNSWICK,GA PD MARK BELL, "His heart stopped yesterday afternoon. I tried CPR, and the EMT people tried to revive him. He had been in pain for many years since his skydiving accident, so maybe it is for the best. His history started in AUGUSTA at WBBQ, then BIRMINGHAM with STEVE DAVIS... then PHILLY and eventually at WAPE for 17 years as afternoon drive. He moved here to ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA. a few years ago. We rode around the island on his golf cart every day. He called it 'making rounds,' and we would go to the pier, the beach and all around the island every day. TODAY,(TUESDAY) he said he didn't feel well. He passed away from heart failure around 4:30p."
