Local Radio Groups, SBCA Board Battle Over Future
June 2, 2011 at 1:56 PM (PT)
With the imminent dissolution of the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION by its current Board of Directors, MT. WILSON FM BROADCASTERS and several other local broadcasting companies have come together and formed an ad hoc committee to keep the SCBA in operation. The move comes on the feels of the SCBA’s Board of Directors forfeiting the existing SCBA office lease and issuing severance packages for SCBA staff.
What's more, the board’s plan to transform the group to be under the purview of KATZ MEDIA GROUP, a subsidiary of CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS, which would ostensibly end SCBA’s independent status. In response, MT. WILSON FM BROADCASTERS and the committee will announce candidates for a replacement board .
"Clearly, shutting down SCBA is not in the interest of the local broadcasting community or the public,"s MT. WILSON FM BROADCASTERS Pres. SAUL LEVINE said. "Therefore we feel compelled to take steps to maintain the operation of this indispensable organization."
