Andrew Gold Passes At 59

Singer songwriter ANDREW GOLD passed away at his home in LOS ANGELES from a heart attack. GOLD, known best for his hits “Lonely Boy,” and “Thank You for Being a Friend,” was 59. His sister MELANI GOLD FRIEDMAN told the LOS ANGELES TIMES that GOLD died in his sleep on FRIDAY (6/3) at his home in ENCINO, CA.
Apparently, GOLD had cancer but was not responding to treatments.
ANDREW GOLD was part of LINDA RONSTADT’s band for several years in the 1970’s as her arranger, and also performed on some of her studio albums, such as “Heart Like a Wheel.” He also did session work for many artists including CARLY SIMON and JAMES TAYLOR.
