Cumulus Now Stunting At 97.9/Atlanta
Where Will Format Wheel Land?

On the heels of CUMULUS Alternative WWWQ-HD2 (99X)/ATLANTA move up the dial from 97.9 FM to 99.1 FM reinforcing the 99X brand, (NET NEWS 6/10), the station is doing some cunning stunting on Translator W250BC (97.9)/RIVERDALE playing a mixture of music. Check out the stunting by clicking here.
And, ALL ACCESS has discovered that CUMULUS has registered the site Journey979.com ... leading all to consider that perhaps another JOURNEY station will debut similar to JOURNEY 94-1/CINCINNATI (NET NEWS 5/20) ... or maybe not.
CUMULUS SVP/Programming JAN JEFFRIES told ALL ACCESS, "It's so funny! Most everyone thought CINCINNATI would be Top 40 and it turned out to be '90s, '80s and NOW. It seems everyone is speculating an identical format to CINCY. We will not do a duplication of format of CINCINNATI in ATLANTA.
"Contemporary radio has many shades from Rhythmic to Young to Mainstream to hybrid Top 40/Hot AC. The most recent moves in this arena in ATLANTA to more adult have opened up a lane we are very comfortable in and is not being served in ATLANTA. Q100 has morphed into a mainstream Top 40. The new format entry will serve perfectly in tandem with our maturing Top 40. One more reason we love this business of surprises!
"We'll all know the answer at noon (ET) on FRIDAY."
