SOUTH CENTRAL COMMUNICATIONS CORP. has lost a discrimination and retaliatory termination lawsuit filed against it by a business manager who said she was the victim of age and gender discrimination after she supported another female employee's discrimination suit, reports the KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL.
The report says that NANCY BARBOUR, 63, was fired by the company from its KNOXVILLE cluster after responding to an internal inquiry about MARTHA JOHNSON's suit and telling the company it had a double standard and "good ole' boys' club." The suit was later settled, but BARBOUR was fired two months later by VP/GM TERRY GILLINGHAM. A jury found that BARBOUR had been fired in retaliation for her backing of JOHNSON. The company was ordered to pay BARBOUR almost $260,000 in damages.
SOUTH CENTRAL owns AC WJXB (B97.5), Adult Hits WQJK-WRJK (95.7 JACK FM), and Classic Rock WIMZ (CLASSIC ROCK 103.5) and operates Alternative WNFZ (94.3 THE X) in the KNOXVILLE market.
