With all the attention paid to PANDORA'a IPO last week (NET NEWS 6/15), the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE found one more interesting point to make.
In its "Number of the day," the paper notes, "$2.14 billion. That's the market value of PANDORA MEDIA, the OAKLAND Internet radio company. Even after losing 16% of its value in its first week of trading, PANDORA is still worth almost as much as 10 of the biggest traditional radio broadcasters combined, including CLEAR CHANNEL. PANDORA has more than 90 million registered users, though it's had a tough time persuading them to sign up for its subscription service. The company, which makes most of its money from advertising, lost $1.8 million in the last fiscal year."

In other PANDORA news, the webcaster has something funny going on -- several new comedy channels. Wrote PANDORA, "We're excited to bring comedy to PANDORA! Enjoy a wide variety of comedy styles and comedians and use 'thumbs-up' or 'thumbs-down' to make your stations just right. Start by entering the name of your favorite comedian, or choose from our pre-mixed comedy stations. Create some comedy stations today!"
Several pre-programmed comedy channels have been launched, including "Today's Comedy," "Comedy Icons," "Urban Comedy" and "Working Class Comedy."
