SPORTING NEWS RADIO is dropping the LINCOLN FINANCIAL MEDIA Sports WQXI-A (790 THE ZONE)/ATLANTA-based "TWO LIVE STEWS" show and adding SNR sister/flagship GOW COMMUNICATIONS Sports KGOW-A (1560 THE GAME)/HOUSTON host SEAN PENDERGAST for 1-4p (ET), starting JULY 4th. PENDERGAST came to sports radio after being a caller to JIM ROME's PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS show as "SEAN THE CABLINASIAN," a play on TIGER WOODS' self-description; he won five of ROME's annual "Smack-Off" contests for best caller.
"We think SEAN is a special talent," said SNR parent MISSION MEDIA GROUP and DOW COMMUNICATIONS President DAVID GOW. "He currently hosts a local sports talk show in the HOUSTON market, and he has a great track record. We've watched how he handles callers and drives his show, and we find him to be funny, intelligent, and entertaining. He is poised for the national stage."
"Our plan is simple. SEAN is already very popular in HOUSTON. He is a successful sports columnist and one of the spokespeople for both the BEAR BRYANT and LOMBARDI awards," said SNR PD CRAIG LARSON. "We're just going to leverage that popularity to a national level."
"As a long time listener to SPORTING NEWS RADIO, this is a dream come true. I created my show to be different. Affiliates will find my show to be a distinctive blend of sports irreverence, humor, pop culture, listener interaction and guests. I'm confident it will resonate and stand out on a national stage. My goal every day is to be memorable," said PENDERGAST.
On dropping the STEWS, GOW said, "We are fans of the STEWS, but just felt the time was right to do something different with this daypart."
