WFKS Stops Kissing, Now!
July 5, 2011 at 6:32 AM (PT)
What began as a stunt last week (NET NEWS 7/1) has become a full-on change as CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFKS (97.9 KISS FM)/JACKSONVILLE rebrands and broadens its musical scope as RADIO NOW 97-9.
At 9a 97.9 KISS FM signed off with 'N SYNC/Bye, Bye, Bye and segued into a reimaging saying "Every generation has their music ... and the time is NOW for JACKSONVILLE to have a station that plays all the hits ... And NOW there is ... RADIO NOW 97-9 at least 5 commercial-free hours every day."
RADIO NOW 97- kicked off with 3 DOORS DOWN/Kryptonite followed by LADY GAGA/Edge of Glory, followed by PANIC AT THE DISCO/I Write Sins Not Tragedies, then KATY PERRY/E.T.
According to the station: "The Music NOW on 97.9 FM will include mainstream artists like KATY PERRY, MAROON 5, RIHANNA, COLDPLAY, BLACK EYED PEAS, LINKIN PARK, LADY GAGA, BRUNO MARS and more."
CLEAR CHANNEL/JACKSONVILLE VP/Market Manager AARON WILBORN commented, "For the first time in years, JACKSONVILLE now has a true hit music station with RADIO NOW 97-9. We're breaking the mold of the traditional Top 40 radio station and giving the fans exactly what they want ... the hits. Adding RADIO NOW to our well-rounded portfolio of stations brings JACKSONVILLE listeners and advertisers products that truly mirror the market."
CLEAR CHANNEL SVP/Programming JON ZELLNER noted, "JACKSONVILLE doesn't have an overabundance of radio stations so there's no reason for someone to 'settle' on a young-end Top 40 or an upper-end AC. RADIO NOW 97-9 fills that gaping hole perfectly."
PD TOMMY BODEAN added, "I'm excited that RADIO NOW 97-9 offers JACKSONVILLE some great music that's currently missing in the market, along with the biggest artists out right now. It will be a destination for all the hits."
