Condolences to the family and friends of long-time GULF COAST radio personality ROBB MURPHY, who was best known as CHARLIE OCEAN, and began his radio career at WNVY-A/PENSACOLA. MURPHY died this morning of renel failure, and leaves behind his wife JENNIFER and five children RAYMOND ROBERT MURPHY III, SEAN IAN MURPHY, LEAH ELIZABETH MURPHY, MASON FREEMAN MURPHY and JOHN TYLER MURPHY.
ALL ACCESS contributer LORI LEWIS told us, "OCEAN joined WIZD (now WYOK) in 1985 and stayed there for ten years before leaving to become PD at WGCX (now WZEW)/MOBILE. In AUGUST 2006, WAVH, known as "THE PIRATE," had OCEAN at the helm, specializing in breaking down old-school radio ideas and formatics. This variation of the 'JACK' format proved to be extremely successful, with WAVH showing it's highest ratings in nearly ten years."
MURPHY remained with WAVH as Production Director up until last week, when he was let go.
