With MERLIN MEDIA now in control via LMA of the former EMMIS Alternative WRXP/NEW YORK, and stunting (NET NEWS 7/15) until the expected News/Talk format arrives, the old music programming has moved online under sister Triple A KGSR/AUSTIN PD CHRIS EDGE, who can be reached at email@example.com.
"We look forward to continuing to serve WRXP's more than two million listeners by streaming RXP online at 1019RXP.com as well as through the RXP app for iPHONE and DROID users," said PATRICK WALSH, CFO/COO at EMMIS. "We recognize that 'RXP's passionate fan base loves the station and we look forward to continue to deliver a quality product to these listeners."
The continuation of the 'RXP brand online and through mobile will continue to strengthen EMMIS' presence in the digital space, as well as preserve the identity of 'RXP, which has become a leading alternative rock brand within NEW YORK CITY and national markets since the current format launched in 2008.
"EMMIS has some big things in the works to continue expanding our digital footprint," said CHASE RUPE, EMMIS VP/Programming & Ops. "As competitors are moving in on the land rush to grab the next bit of real estate focused on delivering audio content on multiple platforms, we are fortunate to have big brands with impressive local and national followings that we can continue to serve and expand upon. 'RXP is one of our strongest brands and we are excited to keep it alive in the hearts and ears of its loyal followers in NEW YORK and around the world."
ANGIE MAY-COOK, VP/EMMIS DIGITAL summed up the rationale for the digital continuance of the RXP brand. "Keeping 1019RXP alive on 1019RXP.com continues the Rock Experience for our passionate NEW YORK audience and allows EMMIS to build upon a strong brand as we take our music content to more digital platforms."
Report: Packer Added To New 101.9 Staff
And FISHBOWLNY.COM's JERRY BARMASH is reporting that CBS RADIO Classic Hits WCBS-F fill-in DAVE PACKER has been added to the MERLIN MEDIA staff for the new format coming to the 101.9 frequency. The station continues with an apparent stunt of Hot AC music with phone call drops and news and traffic reports.
Meanwhile, ALL ACCESS has confirmed that MILLENIUM Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON news anchor RACQUEL WILLIAMS has left that station for an unnamed destination in NEW YORK. Could she also be joining the 101.9 staff?
