SANTA MONICA COLLEGE noncommercial Triple A/News-Talk KCRW/SANTA MONICA-LOS ANGELES sports commentator DIANA NYAD is far better known for her swimming feats, and her long-held plans to attempt again to swim from CUBA to KEY WEST are soon to become reality, reports the NEW YORK TIMES.
NYAD, 61, who tried to make the 60-hour, 103-mile swim in 1978 and had to abandon the attempt due to weather problems, swam 102 miles from BIMINI to FLORIDA without a shark cage; the CUBA-KEY WEST attempt would be the first swim between the two points without a shark cage. KCRW has been chronicling NYAD's training for the feat at its website.
