WHO/Des Moines' Simon Conway Forms 'Balanced Budget Cult'

When Sen. TOM HARKIN (D-IA) dismissed those wanting a balanced budget amendment as being on "the cult fringe," CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WHO-A/DES MOINES afternoon host SIMON CONWAY picked up that mantle and ran with it, telling listeners that they should "embrace the cult" and forming the "Balanced Budget Cult," or BBC for short, fitting considering CONWAY's British heritage.
CONWAY, appointing himself Guru of the "cult," set up a meeting at DES MOINES British pub THE ROYAL MILE, and a State Senator joined as co-Guru. At the "cult meeting" THURSDAY night, CONWAY was joined by a Lutheran priest who named himself the "non-denominational official chaplain" of the "cult," and the meeting, as CONWAY promised, included no political speeches but did include a visit by WHO middayer JAN MICKELSON and about 200 listeners.
CONWAY ended his brief speech to the "cult" members by advising them, "now, let's all go and spend money we don't actually have."
