State Broadcasters' Associations, NAB, Others Ask FCC For Extension Of CAP Compliance Deadline

The NAB, NCTA, all 50 state broadcasters' associations and the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA's, NPR, PBS and several other parties have asked the FCC to grant a further extension of at least 180 days for the deadline for EAS compliance with the Common Alerting Protocol.
The present deadline looms on SEPTEMBER 30th, and the petitioners note that the Commission has yet to decide whether it will institute its own certification process for CAP-compliant equipment separate from FEMA's. "(N)o EAS Participant should be required to purchase costly equipment without knowing whether it will be fully FCC compliant," the petition asserts.
