If the lockout ends and there is an NBA season, the MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES will have a new radio home, moving from CITADEL Urban Oldies WRBO (SOUL CLASSICS 103.5)/MEMPHIS to crosstown ENTERCOM Sports WMFS-A-F (92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN). WMFS, where GRIZZLIES voice ERIC HASSELTINE is launching a daily show MONDAY (8/22), will become the GRIZZLIES' flagship in a multi-year deal. HASSELTINE will return to call the action along with analysts HANK MCDOWELL and ELLIOT PERRY.
"We are excited about the move to 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN and the opportunity it presents to speak directly to our most devoted fans, while allowing them to hear our games on the station they listen to most," said RANDY STEPHENS, GRIZZLIES Senior Vice President of Broadcast. "Teaming with a powerful brand such as ESPN RADIO is a great opportunity to continue the growth we enjoyed during last spring's playoffs and the addition of The ERIC HASSELTINE Show will only enhance the team's relationship with the MEMPHIS community."
"We are thrilled to be the broadcast home of the MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES," said ENTERCOM MEMPHIS VP/Market Manager DAN BARRON. "Partnering with our hometown professional sports team makes sense for our listeners and for 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM. We're a 24/7 sports station, adding the GRIZZLIES to our line-up compliments our other programming, enhances the experience for loyal fans and attracts new listeners. Big time sports on a big time sports station is what listeners expect. We could not be prouder of our association with the Memphis GRIZZLIES."
