It's Official: WIP/Philadelphia Gets FM Simulcast With Flip Of WYSP
August 18, 2011 at 6:39 AM (PT)
CBS RADIO Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA made it official with the announcement that the station will gain an FM simulcast on what has been Classic Rock WYSP's 94.1 FM frequency. WIP's programming will be heard on 94.1 FM starting SEPTEMBER 6th.
In addition, midday hosts GLEN MACNOW and ANTHONY GARGANO will move to 1-6p, replacing HOWARD ESKIN, whose move to EAGLES pre- and post-game chores was announced this week, and IKE REESE. REESE, the former EAGLE, will be joined by market veteran and COMCAST SPORTSNET personality MICHAEL BARKANN for 10a-1p. The morning show with ANGELO CATALDI, AL MORGANTI, RHEA HUGHES, and KEITH JONES, evenings with ROB ELLIS (6-10p) or play-by-play, and overnights with BIG DADDY GRAHAM remain intact.
"WIP has a 25-year track record of being the premier sports station in PHILADELPHIA and the move to FM is part of a natural evolution we've seen successfully work in several major cities across the nation," said SVP/Market Manager MARC RAYFIELD. "We've always been a great sports talk radio station -- now we'll be located on a much busier corner in a larger neighborhood. One of the best years in PHILADELPHIA sports has just become better."
The move of WIP to FM, matching rival GREATER MEDIA Sports WPEN-A-F (97.5 THE FANATIC)'s FM presence, has been widely discussed for months. The announcement TODAY was leaked to the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS' DAN GROSS on WEDNESDAY night (8/17).
25th Anniversary Of Howard Stern's Arrival At WYSP
And speaking of WYSP, the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS' CHUCK DARROW commemorated TODAY's 25th anniversary of the launch of HOWARD STERN's syndication into the DELAWARE VALLEY on WYSP with an article recalling the move and the role of ANDY BLOOM, then WYSP's PD and now OM of WIP and Talk WPHT-A, and GM KEN STEVENS in making the then-unusual addition of an out-of-town morning show happen.
