Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan Launches
August 29, 2011 at 11:35 AM (PT)
The launch of CBS RADIO's Sports WKRK/CLEVELAND took place this morning as the station officially switches from Alternative RADIO 92.3 to 92.3 THE FAN as first announced earlier this month (NET NEWS 8/4).
OHIO MEDIA WATCH has compiled all the information about the station's new lineup. Mornings, as previously announced, are being handled by the reunited KEVIN KILEY and CHUCK BOOMS, with OMW reporting that former crosstown GOOD KARMA Sports WKNR-A (ESPN 850) morning update anchor JEFF THOMAS, most recently hosting at ELYRIA-LORAIN BROADCASTING Talk WEOL-A/ELYRIA, is handling updates for THE FAN. TONY MAZUR and JOSH POTTER are producing the show.
Also as previously reported, SCRIPPS ABC affiliate WEWS-TV Sports Director ANDY BASKIN is in the 10a-2p slot, and while OMW oinitially reported that he would be joined by FOX SPORTS OHIO host and reporter JEFF PHELPS as "CLEVELAND's Talking Heads," the show aired MONDAY sans PHELPS but instead with former BROWNS star REGGIE RUCKER and CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER sportswriter DENNIS MANOLOFF sitting in. OMW says that WKNR's LINDSEY FOLTIN will produce, with THOMAS on updates; FLOTIN and BASKIN tweeted PHELPS s co-host on FRIDAY but he did not appear.
ADAM "THE BULL" GERSTENHABER's move from sister Sports WFAN-A/NEW YORK to the afternoon slot at THE FAN was among the first official announcements at the station, but he will be joined by WEWS-TV reporter and former NFL and OHIO STATE player DUSTIN FOX, with OMW adding that DISPATCH/RADIOHIO Sports WBNS-F (97.1 THE FAN)/COLUMBUS' KEITH BRITTON is producing and TIME WARNER CABLE YOURNEWSNOW/SYRACUSE reporter ANTHONY LIMA is returning to CLEVELAND as afternoon update anchor.
OMW reports that evenings will be handled by AKRON AEROS minor league baseball broadcaster and former CLEAR CHANNEL Sports WARF-A/AKRON host KEN CARMAN. Former CLEAR CHANNEL/PARKERSBURG-MARIETTA and WHEELING Sports Director CHRIS FILLAR will do updates on the evening shift.
Ex-METRO NETWORKS sports anchor (heard on WKNR) DARYL RUITER will serve as BROWNS beat reporter, while another former METRO anchor, MATT LOEDE, will cover the INDIANS. Among weekend hosts noted by OMW are former WKNR host KENDALL LEWIS, former METRO reporter JOE LULL, KEN SILVERSTEIN and LIMA.
The Fan Makes 400 Affiliates For Fox Sports Radio
THE FAN's affiliation with FOX SPORTS RADIO gives the PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS-distributed network its 400th affiliate. THE FAN will carry J.T. THE BRICK overnight and BEN MALLER on weekend late-nights
"This is a proud moment for the FSR family, as we welcome CLEVELAND's WKRK 92.3 THE FAN and eclipse the 400-affiliate mark. None of this would be possible without the tremendous product that our talent delivers every day, and most importantly, the relationships we have with our incredible affiliates," said FSR VP/GM DON MARTIN. "FOX SPORTS RADIO and our affiliates are the true definition of a team."
