Reality show stars Dr. TERRY DUBROW and HEATHER DUBROW have launched a new podcast for PODCASTONE, "DR. & MRS. GUINEA PIG." The show is the second on the podcast network for HEATHER DUBROW, who also hosts "HEATHER DUBROW'S WORLD"; her husband, a plastic surgeon, starred in E's "BOTCHED" while she co-hosted that show's post-show.
The new show posts WEDNESDAYS and will focus on beauty, plastic surgery, exercise, and style, including testing things like, in the first episode, IV hydration therapy for hangovers.
The NPR Story Lab newsroom idea incubator project is expanding to cover other content divisions to develop more projects, including podcasts and radio shows as well as stories for the news operation. The project will also add investment in training, audio workshops and meet-ups like the three-day audio workshop last SPRING that has led to further funding for three podcast pilots, KERA/DALLAS' "DRUGGED," CLAIRE TACON's "DO OVER," and KALW/SAN FRANCISCO's "THE STOOP."
The next NPR Story Lab workshop will take place in MARCH and applications to participate are being taken now, in conjunction with ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENTS IN RADIO (AIR).
PODCASTONE is adding two more podcasts from BREITBART NEWS. "BULLETS WITH AWR HAWKINS," a show about gun rights, debuts TODAY and will post every TUESDAY; "DELINGPOLE," with writer JAMES DELINGPOLE, will launch THURSDAY (10/20). GIMLET MEDIA has dropped another show from its lineup, canceling the "SAMPLER" podcast as of the latest episode.
Host BRITTANY LUSE said on TWITTER that the "podcast about podcasts" is ending but that she would be hosting a new project for GIMLET in the near future. PODTRAC's sixth monthly ranking of podcast publishers, for SEPTEMBER 2016, has no changes atop the top 10 from AUGUST but one new entry has joined the ranking. AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA has jumped into seventh place, with NERDIST INDUSTRIES dropping out of the top 10. The CHICAGO TRIBUNE reports that former NBC O&O WMAQ-TV (NBC 5)/CHICAGO reporter and weekend anchor ANTHONY PONCE's podcast "BACKSEAT RIDER" has been signed to PODCASTONE for distribution.
PONCE left NBC 5 in JULY after being passed over for a promotion and announced that he would be driving for LYFT and producing a podcast featuring conversations with the random people who get rides with him. The first episode posted TODAY (10/12) with the theme being "risk" and the second episode for next week involves movies.
