June 26, 2015It's A Cookie-Cutter World
Have you taken a car trip lately? Well I'm on one right now.
Driving from Nashville to Cleveland ... Cleveland to New York City to Boston to the Carolinas and back.
Listening to radio but it mostly sounds the same. Looking for a place to eat but is the same restaurants that are in Nashville.
The interstates all sort of look alike. One Hilton Garden Inn hotel looks like another Hilton Garden Inn hotel.
You turn on the TV ... all the channels are the same in Cleveland as they are in Boston.
Maybe now I understand why corporate radio wants to make all the stations sound the same ... we are all the same.
The lack of originality really is striking when you leave the home port.
If you were a traveler musician, I defy you to tell the difference in an amphitheater in San Jose, CA and one Camden, NJ. We do live in a cookie-cutter world.

June 5, 2015The Late Fan Fair Still Remembered
Just got off a plane in LA from Hawaii ... already in fear of the hardest week in Country music for the on-scene fans and those covering them... Who are these fans, I ask myself thinking of future stories? The ones met in the early '80s were mostly women probably ...
May 29, 2015This Column Will Feature No Tomato Analogies
Jimmy Carter at LAX On vacation, but even 2,000 miles from Nashville I felt the great "Tomato" explosion. It was a case of an analogy intended for clarity that came off really bad. In case you have been on a deeper vacation and unplugged, a radio music scheduling/radio ...

May 15, 2015Bye Bye, BB ... Bye Bye, Dave
Riley BB King was a humble man. One of the most famous guitarists in the world. BB put down his beloved Lucille a year or so ago. He said good bye to us on social media a few days ago. He was not Country, but find "Nightlife with BB and Willie live," and you will see ...
May 8, 2015Deacon Gets His Liver!
Congratulation to Tim McGraw. Getting his own dramatic series on TNT. Robbers ... based on a book from 2000 of the same name. The Robbers producers have some big shows already on CBS and sounds like a first-class deal. Tim has been offered TV shows and always turned them ...
May 1, 2015Spring Cleaning
The year is a one-third over and hasn't this been a rather "spin the tires" year ... so far? Let's see ... "Girl Crush" seems to be the song with the most buzz this year. Little Big Town has worked so hard to get where they are .,. Can't imagine how anyone could not like ...
April 24, 2015Show Stealers, One-Of-A-Kinds And Flops
Seemed like a long week ... The ACMs felt long ... because it was. The stadium looked fantastic. One and done on that idea, though. Too expensive. A novelty. Award shows blur so much these days. That was an impressive one-of-a-kind event ...16 million on the high side in ...
