Last week we introduced the concept of "Fast Tracking Heritage and success"............
By this we mean..................
Helping listeners form quicker bonds with talent, and morning shows in particular.
Fast tracking compelling and engaging content that demands talk and recall.
Creating soap operas with cliff hangers that listeners become addicted to:
In 2013, success needs to come faster than ever before so programmers need to speed up the future so listeners are forced to become engrossed in the soap opera that is their morning show.
It's all about Fast Tracking Heritage or forcing instant heritage.
Personal Storytelling is a great starting point because only when we know them do we begin to connect.
This connection or relationship can develop in a number of forms......."caring" is just one of them. obviously a "shock jock" would send out a far different, yet equally powerful message.
Here are some tangible ways you can fast track the heritage of your talent.

As we have mentioned, tell great personal stories. We immediately 'buy into" your life. To really fast track this many programmers specifically nominate places in the daily form guide where this can happen. In Australia, programmers have actually forced talent to talk for a specific length of time in order to generate more in depth, picture painting storytelling.
- Get your co-host to interview you "live" on air. Use Facebook etc to solicit for additional listener questions. You'll get great content.
- Run a sweeper campaign .....the x(station frequency) things we don't know about you. For example the 101.1 things you don't know about Chrissy and Jane..........insert.......morning show tag out and set appointment. Here are a few other scripts that work.................
- Start a housewarming campaign in the morning show and across the day to "welcome " the new show. Mix 1065 are doing this very effectively in Sydney , Australia for the launch of their new Sami and Yumi breakfast show.
- Use a lie detector. Your co-host.....or indeed the entire station is on deck to ask you the tough questions. Whatever the result, we will know you better after this.
- Family Day............listeners being the station's family. Invite them to the biggest family party ever!
- "The Wheel of getting to know you"...a brilliant tactic that has been used in the UK on Real Radio and in Ireland on I Radio. You will love (and recall) the music. The idea is that the wheel, spun by listeners, stops on a particular topic (like family). The team each need to recount a great "family story" in 60 seconds.
- "Meet the listeners" campaign......in any form you like. It always works. Recently stations have reworked this into a "hugs and handshakes" campaign. Peter Gordon from UKRD station The Eagle runs this annually as the station's "Love Campaign".
- 'Love on a bus", where the team do outside broadcasts from a bus daily or weekly.....each day travelling on a different route. Oh yes, by the way, listeners travel free on that route on that day.
- A first impressions campaign involving listeners around 6 weeks after the new show/personality goes to air. A great campaign......"to start off I wasnt so sure...but now...."
- A health test on the air............a full physical for the new guy
- Rehab...............a week in rehab before going to air(think soap opera)
- The "home invasion"..............sort of. We (co-host and listeners) need to check out the new guy/girl.....no better way than to find a way to get access to his home(don't think illegal., think tradesperson).Fridge, music collection, bedroom, photos, ......all paint the picture for us.
- New to town...............form a mother's group (or dads) to help show our new team member around town. "50 jobs in 50 hours" also gets you known pretty quickly.
What do you love about .................
Listener comment
Comment from the talent ... reinforcing the listeners comment
So what do we know about Rian and Ashley.................
(grabs) 2-3 link lines
And they are full of fascinating facts
(Grabs)
Catch them ............. when you wake up
If you've just made the switch to ............ here's some important info you need to know .............. and here it is, direct from the people that matter...YOU..............
Congratulations you've discovered the one morning show that...............(show/personality point of difference)So, lots of ways to fast track listeners knowledge and 'care factor' of new talent. Be relentless and remember, you are still new well into year 2 in most markets ... here are a couple of other examples to get you started:
