The Georgia Flood
Jan 18, 2017
On December 2nd, brothers Brooks Mason and Lane Kelly known as The Georgia Flood released their latest EP entitled "People Like Ourselves" via Hubbub! Music. Self-financed, the band went into Jason Hoard's Black Cat Studio to put together the seven songs contained within the collection. "Whistle King," the infectious first single, encompasses much of what the record is about.
"On the surface it seems sort of nonsensical and fun but the song really describes how crazy our lifestyle is on the road," explains Lane, who plays bass and sings harmonies. "Playing in an indie band is a constant state of discovery, and lyrically, 'Whistle King' exemplifies much of that exhilaration and frustration."
Barely into their 20's and rooted deep in rock, this Atlanta-based family affair has been playing together for 13 years and in that time have developed a genre-bending alternative-rock sound. In early 2014, they teamed up with self-taught percussionist Rich Simmons, who is influenced by the soul of blues and passion of rock and roll. This created a full and dynamic foundation for The Georgia Flood.
The Georgia Flood is currently out on the road touring throughout the U.S. in support of "People Like Ourselves."
