The Good, The Bad, & The Queen
Nov 2, 2018
Eleven years ago, Blur/Gorillaz front-man Damon Albarn teamed up with a few friends to make an album called “The Good, The Bad & The Queen.” However after that 2007 collection, the supergroup’s members — Albarn, Clash bassist Paul Simonon, Verve guitarist Simon Tong and legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen went their separate ways. Now they’ve rejoined for a new album called “Merrie Land,” due out on November 16th. Longtime David Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti produced it. “Merrie Land” is the first single released out now via Studio 13/ADA.
The album was written “during the current period in which the U.K. is preparing to leave the European Union – creating a reluctant good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018. ‘Merrie Land’s focus moves beyond GBQ’s London-themed first album to a wider land, with a beautiful and hopeful paean to the Britain of today, an inclusive Britain, currently in an Anglo-Saxostentialist crises at the end of a relationship, wondering what might be salvaged.”
The Good The Bad & The Queen have begun to map out a supporting tour in promotion of “Merrie Land.”
