Ships Have Sailed

Los Angeles independent duo Ships Have Sailed recently released their euphoric new single “Take My Money,” guided by uplifting melodies and dynamic percussion. Funk influences are woven into the buoyant track, which was produced by Will Carpenter and Dan Sadin. The video for the track highlights society’s materialistic & superficial nature by juxtaposing internet & app imagery with antiques, is a perfect insight into the band’s mindset when they were creating the song.
“We were lucky enough to work (again) with producer/director duo TalkboyTV on the video for ‘Take My Money’,” the duo explained when asked about the creation of the video. “We really wanted to capture the progression of materialism in our culture over time…it was fun tracking down vintage items for this shoot, from classic looking soup cans to old TVs…some of which we fortunately found purely by chance on the side of the road the morning of the shoot. It ended up being such a fun shoot, and the video really elevates the meaning behind the song…we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!”
When asked about the song, Will Carpenter said, “‘Take My Money’ is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reaction to our ever connected world where devices and the apps on them seem to run our lives more and more every day, influencing our decisions and our thought patterns. It presents itself as a slightly vapid pop jingle, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find some irony, some humor, and maybe a cautionary tale or two.”
Carpenter, the creative force behind Ships Have Sailed, is an award-winning songwriter/producer who has worked with the likes of Grammy Winner Redone (Lady Gaga, U2, The Band Perry) and Wally Gagel (Family Of The Year, Miley Cyrus, Best Coast). Ships Have Sailed released their debut album Moodswings in 2015.
