The Neighbourhood
Nov 25, 2012

The five-piece indie pop group from Los Angeles, The Neighbourhood are on the precipice of becoming the next Foster The People, making their deliriously catchy song "Sweater Weather" this year's "Pumped Up Kicks." The track is on their debut EP, I'm Sorry which was released on August 7th via Columbia Records.
It is a sweetly romantic, indie R&B anthem dusted with a hip-hop lite verse. The "Sweater Weather" video is the work of Daniel Iglesias Jr. and Zack Sekuler, in collaboration with I Versus Eye and photographer Justin Bettman. It's as dreamy as the song.
Their music is brilliantly catchy, employing pop sensibilities that keep their sound fresh, while still hinting at influences. The Neighbourhood's lead singer is 21 year old Jesse Rutherford and he says that a lot of their influences come from the hip hop genre. The group has been surrounded by incredible buzz lately. Their song, "Female Robbery," debuted on both NME, Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 Show, and SiriusXM's AltNation.
This Newbury Park, CA quintet launched its stealth campaign a couple months ago in the U.K. The band didn't release any biographical information but teased that more music would be on the way and they are going to deliver. Look for the debut album from The Neighbourhood to drop in Spring 2013.
