Basic Vacation

Alternative-Rock band, Basic Vacation, are about to release their self-titled debut EP on October 15th via Troy Carter's Atom Factory Music/Capitol Records. This East-Coast based trio, vocalist-guitarist Chris Greatti, bassist Jon Paul, and drummer Mike Montalbano have already been attracting the attention of the blogosphere with its irresistibly catchy debut single "I Believe," which was released on September 10th. This single may be recognizable from promo spots for the new season of NBC's hit show "Biggest Loser." The song is the perfect snapshot for Basic Vacation at the time they wrote it, but the same can be said for the EP. The band was figuring out their own sound while different things were going on in their personal lives. Everything that they were writing and living blended together on the EP.
"It was spread out over a bunch of months as we were figuring out where this music was going to go. We started this at Avatar Studios in New York with David Kahne," said Greatti. "We had demoes for 'I Believe' already fleshed out and a few other songs too. David agreed to help us work on some songs and that was amazing because David's track record kind of speaks for itself. I mean, he worked with The Strokes and The Bangles."
Basic Vacation spent time over this past summer touring with Owl City and they made their Los Angeles debut at Neon Gold's Popshop West in August. They opened for Third Eye Blind several weeks ago at the University of Iowa and are touring with Australian buzz band Alpine in Montreal which runs through October 19th. They'll then head to the west coast to play some select dates which include Popscene in San Francisco on October 24th, San Louis Obispo on October 26th and KCRW's "School Night" at Bardot on October 28th.
