"Lanterns" is the new single from Australian band, Birds Of Tokyo's fourth album, March Fires via Loma Vista/Republic Records. The song peaked at #3 on the Australian Singles Chart, becoming their first ever single to hit the top 10 in Australia. The song was used for a preview promo for the second season of Revenge on Australia's Seven Network in 2013. March Fires is a journey of exploration and reinvention. It's a story of burning down the old and coming together to build something new.
Forming in 2004, Birds Of Tokyo is a collaboration between members of another Perth act Tragic Delicate and Karnivool, from which Ian Kenny came. The current members are Ian Kenny (vocals), Adam Spark (guitar), Ian "White Goods" Berney (bass), Glenn Sarangapany (keys) and Adam Weston (drums). In 2005, they released two EPs. The first was released in January as a demo and the songs received airplay on Triple J, 96fm, RTRFM, Base FM, FBi and PBS. The second, a double A side single recorded in Melbourne with acclaimed producer Forrester Savell (Helmet, Full Scale, Karnivool).
Their debut album Day One, gained them domestic success with it reaching No. 3 on the AIR Independent Album charts, spending a total of 36 consecutive weeks in the top 10. In 2008, Birds Of Tokyo released Universes, which made it to No. 3 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. In 2010 they released its highest charting album to date, Birds of Tokyo, which reached No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Having already conquered the stadiums of Australia, the band have taken on some different venues this year, performing in a Canberra University, a Gladstone Convention Centre, playing at the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing at Manly beach in Sydney and they headlined the final night of the Summerset Arts Festival Beach Concert. Currently, Birds of Tokyo are stateside and will be performing at 92.9 FM KJEE's Summer Round-Up in Santa Barbara.
