Catfish And The Bottlemen
Jul 27, 2014
The British band, Catfish And The Bottlemen have released their latest single "Kathleen" via Communion/RED. It was recorded in collaboration with Jim Abbiss, the man behind Arctic Monkeys' debut Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not. Still possessed by their trademark punch, the track finds Catfish exploring a more nuanced sound, with Abbiss' guiding hand to refine the band's uncompromising approach to volume. Opening with punchy percussion and moaning guitars which is then joined by a prominent bassline, the track embodies a playful post-punk indie-rock sound. They are set to release their debut album later this year.
The four-piece band hailing from Wales consists of Van McCann (lead vocals), Billy Bibby (lead guitar), Benji Blakeway (bass guitar) and Bob Hall (drums). The band members all moved to Llandudno from different areas including Sheffield and Accrington. Van moved from Australia at a young age where he met a busker named 'Catfish the Bottleman', who he credits as the inspiration behind the band's name.
Last year, Catfish And The Bottlemen played upward of 100 shows in 18 months. They have been performing at over 30 festivals in the UK/Europe this summer including Reading & Leeds, Latitude, Kendal Calling, Tramlines, Ibiza Rocks, and Governors Ball in New York City.
