Joe Nichols is launching a weekly series, "Merle Mondays," paying homage to his musical hero, Merle Haggard. The series, which kicked off April 20th, features a performance of a Haggard song every Monday afternoon on Nichols' Instagram and Facebook pages. On his debut show, Nichols performed his rendition of “You Take Me For Granted.”
 
“There’s been a few voices that have come along that have really set the standard in Country. Certainly for males. George Jones, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley – singer’s singer," said Nichols. "The other part of it for me is also [Haggard's] ability to make a song seem real. The lyrics the guy writes and sings you actually can just taste it in the air ... To me it seems real, and that’s a sign of a true artist when music connects with the listener so much that you actually feel a part of the story.
