Charlie Wilson, known to many as Uncle Charlie (a nickname given to him by rapper Snoop Dogg), is a Tulsa-born singer-songwriter.
His father was Reverend at an area church and as a youth, he and brothers Ronnie and Robert would sing in choir before their father's sermons.
Wilson and his brothers created the legendary R&B group The Gap Band in 1974, scoring numerous R&B and Pop hits over their career including "Early In The Morning," "Outstanding" and "You Dropped A Bomb On Me."
Wilson embarked on a solo career in the '90s and released his first solo album, You Turn My Life Around, in 1992. The song "Without You" from his 2000 album, Bridging The Gap, provided the singer with the first of 12 solo #1 singles at UAC. In 2020, he topped the UAC chart with two releases, "One I Got" and "Forever Valentine," a song on which he collaborated with Bruno Mars (Mars produced, co-wrote and sang background vocals).
Over his career, Wilson has been nominated for 13 Grammy awards. He has been honored with the BMI Icon Award in 2005 and the Soul Train Icon Award in 2009. In 2013, BET honored Wilson with a Lifetime Acheivement Award, presented to him by Justin Timberlake.
