John Mayer
Jun 23, 2013
On June 18th singer-songwriter John Mayer, released "Paper Doll", the first single from his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Paradise Valley via Columbia Records which will come out on August 13th. This is his follow-up to the admirably grown-up Born and Raised from 2012. The folksy, yet soulful tune is probably an answer to Taylor Swift's Mayer-inspired "Dear John," but is definitely mellow goodness. Best yet, the lyric video features an awe-inspiring Prancercise routine by Joanna Rohrback.
Mayer's first two studio albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, did well commercially, achieving multi-platinum status. In 2003, he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Your Body Is a Wonderland." In 2005 Mayer went on to collaborate with renowned blues artists B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton and formed the John Mayer Trio. The blues influence can be heard throughout his 2005 live album Try! with the John Mayer Trio and his third studio album Continuum, released in September 2006. At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, Mayer won Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change". He released his fourth studio album, Battle Studies, in November 2009. His fifth album, Born and Raised, which saw another musical style shift, was released in May 2012. He has sold over ten million albums in the U.S. and over 20 million albums worldwide.
Mayer will kick off his first tour in three years on July 6th in Milwaukee, WI after performing at Philly's annual Fourth of July Jam. He'll tour till October, raising funds and awareness of the post traumatic stress effecting military veterans.
