"Criminals" is the latest single from singer-songwriter, David Cook. It will be on his upcoming fourth official album, "Digital Vein", due out on September 18th via InGrooves Music Group. "Criminals" was written with Nashville songwriter, Blair Daly. In it, Cook presents his own take on the classic theme of lovers on the run, a notion that has long transfixed the American consciousness, from Bonnie and Clyde to Bruce Springsteen. Cook recorded the new album in his home studio, working with his longtime friend and onetime bandmate Andy Skib, who engineered, and the rhythm section from his touring band, playing the bulk of the parts himself.
"Working in Nashville opened me up creatively to trying different things," Cook explains. "Writing for country acts has been freeing in the sense that I can bring out that side of my creativity, and it brought some freshness to the other side of what I like to do. So I ran with it, going into the creative process with the blinders off. I just wanted to try things, and there was no formula. Honestly, I didn't even know if I was gonna make another record; I decided to just write and have fun and see what happens."
Cook first rose to fame after winning the seventh season of American Idol. Prior to Idol he released an independent album entitled "Analog Heart". This was followed by his post-Idol major-label debut "David Cook" which was released in 2008 and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA. His second major album "This Loud Morning" was released in 2011.
This Fall, Cook will be busy touring the US in support of "Digital Vein".
