For the past decade, many brands have experienced increased awareness, interest and conversion from the social space.
And for other brands - they are still asking the age-old question how to grow followers and/or engagement.
It's not as easy as perhaps some perceive social success to be.
But one thing is for sure, if you pay attention to audience signals - what they like, and what they ignore, you get closer to growing an active fan base.
It also helps to pay attention to studies on behavior - like this one from Sprout Social
When asked why consumers follow brands socially - half said to learn about new products and services as well as to be entertained.
And when asked why they unfollow brands socially, it should come as no surprise 56% said poor customer service followed by posting irrelevant content (51%) and too many ads (43%).
People are walking around with the Internet in their pants.
They often use social as a cure for boredom.
So never assume what we're doing has inherent value.
There are basic disciplines to start building now to work closer towards creating more meaningful moments; less insignificant experiences.
Be Useful
The top emotional triggers people say they want from social media: Content should teach, entertain, inspire, empower or make people feel relatable.
Be Coherent
Is what you're talking about/sharing even easy to understand? Does it make sense in the first three seconds?
Be Real
People appreciate unfiltered, upbeat moments. It goes back to the relatable trigger that works so well.
Brands who pay attention and go beyond expectations by developing smart disciplines will find even more opportunities to grow; leading to a more loyal (and profitable) audience base.
