Groups Can Help Build, Grow, Scale and Connect With Super Fans

Facebook recently commissioned a survey of people who are currently members of online and in-person communities to learn more about Groups and how to best manage and support them.
The research revealed online communities (Groups) have taken on new roles, especially during a difficult 2020.
Key findings from the Communities Insights Survey include:
- Over Half Of Facebook Users Belong To Five Or More Active Groups
Communities are playing a vital role connecting people. (Facebook has 2.7 billion users worldwide.) - COVID-19 Has Brought Out The Best In Communities
91% of respondents said they have given some form of support to others through a group or community during the pandemic. - Online Communities Are Thriving
The value of social media connection, in replacement of in-person community, cannot be overstated. 77% say the most important group they are part of now operates online. - And Groups Will Continue To Thrive
While 57% say they actively participate in their Groups every day, this participation is here to stay: Over the next 12 months, 86% say they’ll continue engaging with their groups at the same level. - Groups Provide The Feeling Of Being A Part Of Something
98% of people who belong to an online group say they feel a sense of belonging and connection to others. - Local Matters
There’s no doubt the key to Group success is effective moderation.
So first, find the right person or people who naturally enjoy interacting with people.
Then consider the following tips to get your Group started:
- Trending Topics
Watch what people are talking about and open up conversation around that one topic. Really listen to uncover what the audience cares about most in order to grow. - Life Hacks
Benchmark this for a specific day (Ex: #TuesdayTips) to find the cool ways people make their lives easier. - Behind The Scenes
Go live - give the audience a peek into what they don’t typically see. - Demo
Teach people how to do things. What do you love doing? Cooking, playing music, exercising...show the audience how to do something new.
Think community and connection.
It's in these Group moments we create the intangibles every great brand is built on.
All the while - when planned out and paying attention to what we're doing - we can execute memorable brand building opportunities for our advertising partners, too.
But it starts by helping the audience always feel that they are part of something meaningful.
