Opry And Nashville Country Radio Raise Ton Of Money For Red Cross

Kudos to the GRAND OLE OPRY on last night's (9/27) Country Reaches Out: An Opry Benefit For The AMERICAN RED CROSS. The sold out show at NASHVILLE's OPRY HOUSE featured such big names as ALAN JACKSON, KEITH URBAN, LeANN RIMES, CRAIG MORGAN, ALISON KRAUSS, MARTY STUART and TERRI CLARK. 

The ticket sales totaled $230,000, all of which was donated to the ARC. In addition, SCRIPPS NETWORKS, parent company to GAC, gave $1 million and CRACKER BARREL announced plans to give $1 million in food vouchers to the victims of KATRINA and RITA. The event was broadcast on GAC, SIRIUS satellite radio and in an unprecedented show of unity, local radio stations WSIX, WKDF and WSM-A. 

Many artists had personal ties to the area, such as LeANN RIMES, who had family members in MISSISSIPPI and a band member from NEW ORLEANS that were affected by KATRINA. Some artists, such as ALAN JACKSON, have played the GULF COAST area for years and felt the need to help out those that had been so important to his career. And some just felt it was the right things to do. When asked why she was donating her time and talent, TERRI CLARK simply said, "It's my duty as a human being to get involved."
