Liberal Talk pioneer LYNN SAMUELS passed away on CHRISTMAS EVE at the age 69. No cause of death was immediately announced; her body was discovered after she failed to report for her 10a SATURDAY show at SIRIUS XM radio and the company asked police to go to her WOODSIDE, QUEENS, home.
"She was unique beyond words," former WABC PD JOHN MAINELLI told the NY DAILY NEWS. “I'm so glad I knew her." MAINELLI said he exchanged messages with her on FRIDAY, at which time she said she would be doing both her SATURDAY and SUNDAY shows live this weekend.
"I am stunned," one-time WABC colleague JAY DIAMOND wrote on the NEW YORK RADIO MESSAGE BOARD. “She sometimes got mad at me, but I loved her, and we were friends to the end. The world of radio, and the world in general, will miss this great talent, and great human being."
SIRIUSXM honored SAMUELS on a special edition of The ALEX BENNETT Program earlier today (DECEMBER 27th), live from 7-10a ET on SIRIUSXM Left/ch.127. Veteran broadcaster RICHARD BEY, a longtime friend and colleague of SAMUELS, is guest-hosting this week while BENNETT is on vacation, but BENNETT returned from vacation for the day to join him in studio to salute SAMUELS’ life, ideas and legendary broadcasting career.
