What says "all-News" better than a "newshound"? RADIO ONE News KROI (NEWS 92.1FM)/HOUSTON now has a real newshound, a dog nicknamed "CRONKITE" who will serve as the station mascot at personal appearances and station functions.
The dog was obtained through HOUSTON BEAGLE AND HOUND RESCUE, whose Events and Fundraising Chairman ELIZABETH EMERY said the dog, named WALTER and given the obvious nickname CRONKITE after the CBS legend, came to the rescue organization when a family was about to take the dog to an animal shelter. "They had purchased him online from an out of state breeder as a CHRISTMAS present, and they didn't realize what they were getting into. They were preparing to take him to a shelter when a relative said 'You can't do that,' and took the dog from them and contacted HOUSTON BEAGLE AND HOUND RESCUE."
"NEWS 92 FM recognizes that the emotional bond between our listeners and their pets is a fundamental part of their lives," said RADIO ONE HOUSTON GM DOUG ABERNETHY. "The addition of a station newshound will certainly be fun for the staff and the listeners, but it will also allow us to draw attention to the important topics of pet adoption and pet care in
Houston."The mascot makes his debut on AUGUST 18th during the Bowling for Beagles event .
