Legendary R&B producer, A&R man, songwriter CARL DAVIS passed THURSDAY morning at his home in SUMMERVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA. He had been suffering with lung disease.
DAVIS was responsible for a host of hits in the '60s, '70s and '80s. The long list of artists he worked with includes The CHI-LITES, BARBARA ACKLIN, JACKIE WILSON, MAJOR LANCE, WALTER JACKSON and GENE CHANDLER. DAVIS produced GENE CHANDLER’s biggest hit, “The Duke Of Earl” and The CHI-LITES’ “Oh Girl.;" he was the architect for what became known as “The CHICAGO Sound.”
DAVIS was 77 years old. Funeral arrangements are pending.
