CORUS Alternative CFNY (102.1 THE EDGE)/BRAMPTON-TORONTO has been hit with a short-term license renewal by the CRTC.
The renewal, for a term just short of five years, was truncated due to a violation of Canadian Content rules for the week of JANUARY 8th-14th, 2012. The station admitted that it fell short of the 35% mark (at 34.4%) that week, and the Commission noted that the licensee attributed it to human error (one song miscoded as Canadian) and that it had taken "significant action to remedy the situation," but also noted that the station has been found in non-compliance for three consecutive license terms, getting four-year and two-year short-term renewals for the last two cycles, the four-year for CanCon violations and the two-year for problems with its contributions to the Canadian Content Development fund.
The renewal term will run from DECEMBER 1st, 2012 to AUGUST 31st, 2017.
