The UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AUSTIN has purchased KXBT (98.9), a commercial FM station currently airing Classic Rock, in a $6 million deal from DALLAS-based BORDER MEDIA BUSINESS TRUST.
Consequently KUT will move to an all-News format, while KXBT will debut as all-music Triple A KUTX. The new formats will begin sometime this fall, following FCC approval.
Both stations will be housed at the new KUT PUBLIC MEDIA STUDIOS on the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS campus.
"Differentiating KUT’s news and music services across two stations is consistent with our strategic plan to double impact by 2020 and contribute to the long-term public service and sustainability of KUT," said GM STEWART VANDERWILT. "The new KUT Public Media Studios - with their increased production capacity, public spaces and direct audience interaction - are the foundation of this strategic direction."
