AGM Top 40/Rhythmic KAGM (POWER 106.3)/ALBUQUERQUE has gotten deeply involved in a recent local tragedy involving a two-year old boy and his parents, hit by a drunk driver on SATURDAY (8/25). VICENTE GRIEGO suffered a a broken neck and brain injury in the accident.
The drunk driver left the scene, struck another car injuring its driver and even hit a police car in his attempt to get away. The drunk driver had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. He quickly posted bail and a local judge, citing the 20-year old's clean record, allowed the young man to remain free.
Hearing the story, KAGM morning host DOUBLE J jumped in to activate the community and start a push to toughen the drunk driving laws in NEW MEXICO.
This morning (8/31), young VICENTE GRIEGO's grandmother came to the station to thank KAGM and DOUBLE J and deliver news that VICENTE was now brain dead and would soon be taken off life support. She even brought photos of VICENTE and went on the air with DOUBLE J in what DOUBLE J called, "The most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen in my radio career."
VICENTE's grandmother also shared that VICENTE's parents had also lost their car in the accident and would have trouble keeping their jobs without it. Within 45 minutes a local company stepped up and donated a vehicle to the family.
KAGM has received thousands of calls and comments in studio, on FACEBOOK and on TWITTER. You can see some of them at www.Facebook.com/DoubleJsOnAir.
KAGM and DOUBLE J are now working on getting NEW MEXICO Governor, SUZANNA MARTINEZ on the show, as she too is a huge advocate against drunk driving.
