MCA NASHVILLE artist GEORGE STRAIT held a press conference in NASHVILLE TODAY (9/26) to announce that his upcoming "THE COWBOY RIDES AWAY TOUR" will be his last.
The press conference, which was held at the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM, started with a montage of Country artists speaking about how GEORGE has influenced their career, including REPUBLIC NASHVILLE artist MARTINA MCBRIDE who will joining GEORGE on his 2013 dates. Prior to GEORGE approaching the podium, UMG Chairman MIKE DUNGAN said, "We want to make clear that this is not a retirement."
GEORGE then announced, "I have made the decision, that after these next two years (referring to current tour commitments), I am not going to do any touring." He also re-iterated that he is NOT retiring, and plans to record and make more music. He also said that this announcement does not mean that he will never make a stage appearance or perform again, but will now be free to pick and choose which future festivals and events he wants to participate in. “This is going to be a very special, emotional tour for me. Everywhere we’re going holds fond memories and I’m looking forward to paying my respects,” STRAIT said.
"THE COWBOY RIDES AWAY TOUR" will kick off in LUBBOCK, TX on JANUARY 18th, 2013, and conclude in 2014. For more information about GEORGE STRAIT, or to see his upcoming tour dates and to purchase "THE COWBOY RIDES AWAY TOUR" tickets, visit www.GeorgeStrait.com.
