The CRTC has denied RADIO 710's renewal application for Tourist Information CJRN-A/NIAGARA FALLS, ON and has ordered the station to cease broadcasting on NOVEMBER 30th.
The station's repeated violations of its format restrictions to air Ethnic programming aimed at TORONTO, non-local newscasts and sports updates, and promos for other stations, as well as failure to provide music lists and details of spoken-word programs as requested by the Commission, led to the revocation of the license.
The Commission noted that the licensee "licensee failed to take responsibility for its non-compliance. In particular, rather than acknowledging its role in the non-compliance, the licensee blamed its staff and the staff of other radio stations for the missing logger tapes and the general manager and an outside service for the late filing of annual returns ... the cumulative effect of this behaviour is to indicate a lack of oversight on the part of the licensee with respect to the fulfilLment of its regulatory obligations because the licensee is unaware of what its obligations are, what is actually taking place and what is being done to fulfill those obligations."
