Veteran SCRANTON-WILKES BARRE, PA traffic reporter DALE MIKOLACZYK, better known on the air as RUSTY FENDER, has exited the ENTERCOM cluster in the market, reports the WILKES-BARRE TIMES LEADER.
MICOLACZYK , who has been reporting traffic on the stations since 1990, was let go on MONDAY, with Market Manager RYAN FLYNN telling the paper that the company "decided to go in a different direction" to "retool" the position, and intends to keep the reports live and local rather than outsourcing to an out-of-the-area company. MIKOLACZYK's weekly "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE AT THE OLDIES" show (under the air name SHADOE STEELE) on Talk WILK-A-F has also come to an end.
Saying that his time in radio has come to an end ("I’ve been in radio for 42 years, starting at age 15 at WVIA 89.9 FM. When you work for the top cluster, there’s nowhere else to go”), MIKOLACZYK told the TIMES LEADER that he may return to working for NBC affiliate WBRE-TV, where he was an engineer, and will continue teaching at WILKES UNIVERSITY and producing a TV series he has pitched to several networks. He also indicated to the paper that he may file an age discrimination suit against ENTERCOM for the dismissal.
