GRAND SLAM SPORTS Sports KFNS-A (590 THE FAN)/ST. LOUIS afternoon host KEVIN SLATEN has exited the station after he made racially-oriented comments on the air last week, according to the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH.  The station is airing PAUL FINEBAUM's BIRMINGHAM-based syndicated show in the afternoon slot through the college football BCS Championship Game.

SLATEN, who was not directly employed by the station but instead sold his own time as an independent contractor, was dismissed MONDAY by GM KATY PAVELONIS, who told the paper that SLATEN's comments on THURSDAY "led to the conversation we had today.  We are parting ways, the station is going in a little bit of a different direction … The topics of THURSDAY weren't honing in on where I want to go."
