COLUMBIA NASHVILLE artist CASEY JAMES is known for his golden curly hair, but when he started sporting facial hair, the new look took some by surprise.
As we now know, it was all for a good cause -- to raise money for ST. JUDE CHILDREN’s RESEARCH HOSPITAL. JAMES’ “TEAM CASEY JAMES” led the competition throughout NO SHAVE NOVEMBER until the final days when “TEAM THOMPSON SQUARE” took the win (NET NEWS 12/3).
NO SHAVE NOVEMBER was a nationwide beard-growing competition among radio and music industry professionals. Money was raised through a combination of competition entry fees, bids to make competitors shave, and bids to trump the shaving (thus, keeping the beard).
Ultimately, “TEAM CASEY JAMES” raised $13,528 for ST. JUDE’s, in part due to a large final donation promised in the event that CASEY agreed to shave the beard on stage. While in SHREVEPORT, LA, he obliged, and shaved in front of the crowd. "For the record, this is the weirdest thing I've ever done in my life," he told them.
“I’m so proud to have been a part of NO SHAVE NOVEMBER. Being an artist can sometimes give you the ability to help causes like this in a bigger way. It’s something that I don’t take lightly, and I’m extremely thankful for it. To know that we raised over $13,000 brings me so much joy. I hope we can do more in the future. A special thanks to my band (some of whom haven't had beards for years) for coming along for the journey,” said JAMES.
In addition to his second place finish, CASEY JAMES also earned the official MVB (Most Valuable Beard) title for the 2012 competition.
