Albany Radio-TV Newsman Don Decker Dies

Condolences to family and friends of longtime ALBANY-SCHENECTADY-TROY market radio and television newsman DON DECKER, who died MONDAY night of cancer at 79 in ROTTERDAM, NY, according to the ALBANY TIMES UNION.
DECKER began his career at WCSS-A/AMSTERDAM, NY and then moved on to WSNY-A/SCHENECTADY and WTRY-A/ALBANY. He next joined GENERAL ELECTRIC's WGY-A and WRGB-TV/SCHENECTADY, where he started as a radio reporter and moved up to TV news anchor, then moved to Assignment Editor/Producer before becoming News Director in 1968; he left WRGB in 1987 and spent several years at noncommercial WAMC/ALBANY before joining ABC affiliate WTEN (TV) in 1990. DECKER retired in 1998 but continued as a consultant.
