RED ZEBRA Sports WTEM-A (ESPN 980)/WASHINGTON has suspended afternoon "THE SPORTS REPORTERS" hosts STEVE CZABAN and ANDY POLLIN for remarks made about transgender college basketball player GABRIELLE LUDWIG. On their DECEMBER 6th show, CZABAN and POLLIN said that they thought LUDWIG, a 50-year-old who is playing for MISSION COLLEGE in CALIFORNIA, should not be allowed to play women's college basketball and made remarks about her appearance and allegedly called her "it." The hosts issued an apology on MONDAY's show but were suspended by the station TODAY.
A statement from the station said, "We strongly believe two of our employees crossed the line when discussing a transsexual person on their program last THURSDAY. Such intolerance and insensitivity will never be tolerated by this company. Due to the nature of their conversation, the pair have been temporarily removed from ESPN 980′s SPORTS REPORTER program."
