Various publications, including the ORLANDO SENTINAL, are reporting that BRITNEY SPEARS will be departing as a judge of "The X Factor" after just one season. According to US WEEKLY, COWELL is close to canning SPEARS because he doesn't feel she's earned her $15-million salary. "He wanted crazy BRITNEY, but he got boring BRITNEY," an unnamed source explained.

That seems to be one of the reasons being used for the show's double-digit ratings decline. However, a show spokeswoman downplayed the rumors. "No one has discussed next year's judging panel yet," the spokeswoman told SHOW TRACKER. "Any reports otherwise are complete speculation."

Only COWELL and DEMI LOVATO are set to return as judges next fall. L.A. REID has publicly announced his plans to leave"The X Factor" and refocus on energies as a music executive.
