The CRTC has granted THE BANFF CENTRE's application for a new Triple A station in BANFF, AB. The new station will operate with 550 watts maximum ERP at -326.4 meters above average terrain.
However, the agency rejected D & K COMMUNICATIONS' application for a low power Country station at WINDSOR, NS. The application, which asserted that WINDSOR had no local stations, was challenged by MARITIME BROADCASTING SYSTEM LTD., which pointed out that its Country CFAB-A/WINDSOR has been operating in town for 68 years. D & K countered that CFAB broadcasts from studios in KENTVILLE and that its own format would contribute to musical diversity by offering 25% rock, pop, and dance and 25% easy listening. The CRTC raised questions about the proposed commitment to local programming and an incomplete supplementary brief, along with the characterization of CFAB, as reasons for rejecting the application.
