Loretta Lynn To Receive 'Presidential Medal Of Freedom'

LORETTA LYNN is among this YEAR’s "PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM" recipients -- the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The "PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM" is presented to those who have made major contributions to world peace, or to the security, cultural, or national interest of the nation. LORETTA is being recognized for paving the way for women in Country music by "courageously breaking barriers in an industry long dominated by men," according to a WHITE HOUSE press release.

Additional 2013 honorees include OPRAH WINFREY, retired baseball player ERNIE BANKS, former PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, the late astronaut SALLY RIDE, as well as 11 others.
