The Operation Yewtree sex scandal investigation in the U.K. has entangled another prominent veteran broadcaster, former BBC RADIO 1 host DAVE LEE TRAVIS, who has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault and one of sexual assault.
The 68-year-old radio and TV personality was charged after being investigated by the police operation that followed the posthumous disclosure of sexual offenses allegedly committed by the late JIMMY SAVILE. The charges against TRAVIS, which cover alleged offenses between 1977 and 2007 against nine females aged 15 to 29 at the time of the offenses, appear to be unrelated to SAVILE.
TRAVIS (real name DAVID PATRICK GRIFFIN) hosted at pirate Top 40 RADIO CAROLINE in 1965-67, then on BBC RADIO 1 for several years through 1993, when he resigned on the air; he hosted for the BBC WORLD SERVICE in 1981-2001. More recently, he hosted at CLASSIC GOLD, BBC THREE COUNTIES RADIO, and the MAGIC network.
